Leisure Caniço - Madeira Island
Parcial do Garajau Natural Reserve has a unique law in order to make it a protected coastline area, turning it into a nursery. This reserve was created in 1986, and is the only reserve in Portugal exclusively maritime. This, thanks to its geographical location, its biological richness and crystal clear extremely clean waters and recreational tourism, makes it a great location for family vacations of all ages. The Garajau contains also a promontory, the Ponta do Garajau, where you can see a statue of Christ the King. It was once a place for localization of whales, and these days you can find here a pedestrian trail and a viewing point, excellent for watching seabirds. Ponta do Garajau connects, via a cable car, to Praia do Garajau, this is called Garajau cable car, stepping through a 400-metre extension.
